Considered one of the largest animals in the world, the elephant is said to be the largest land animal in the world.
It has been a common animal in many different art pieces, and we have a cute interpretation for you to imitate when you learn how to draw a cartoon elephant!
This version of an elephant that we’re going to be working on is adorable, and we can’t wait to show you how easy and fun drawing can be!

How to Draw A Cartoon Elephant
Step 1
For this first step in drawing your cartoon elephant, we’ll start with the head and perhaps the most recognizable aspect of an elephant: the trunk!
First, we will use some curved lines for the top and bottom of the head.
You can then add the torso to the face. The trunk is drawn with curved and spiraling lines and gets quite twisted towards the end as it curls.
As you can see in our reference image, it will also have a handcrafted smiley mouth. That’s all this step has to offer, and then we can move on to the next step of the guide!
Step 2
In this second step of our tutorial on drawing a cartoon elephant, we will add some details of the face and the rest of the head outline.
To start this process, let’s start by adding ears to the sides of the head. An elephant’s ears are large and rounded, flapping heavily on the side of the head.
They also feature some curved sections of the inner ear.
Then you can draw eyes by putting ovals in the face, and then you can put a smaller oval in each one. Finally, draw some thick brows over the eyes to complete this step.
Step 3
This third step focuses on outlining the body and legs of this cute baby elephant! First, add a rounded line behind the ear.
A more wavy line is used for the chest under the face. Next, we draw the beginning of the front leg and the first hind leg.
These legs are drawn with some curved lines and some lines at the places where the knees bend. It ends in a small ponytail with a large tuft of hair.
Step 4
Your cartoon elephant drawing is now really taking shape! So far, you’ve added two of the four legs; in this case, we will add the second front leg.
As you add this, you will see why in the previous step, we left the right edge of the first front leg blank.
This will cover the space and have a similar shape to the previous ones.
You will notice a blank space where the belly should be, but we will fill that with all the final details in the next step.
Step 5
There are some final touches to make this drawing even better before adding some colors in the final step of this how-to-draw cartoon elephant guide!
We’ll add a few details in this step, but they’re all small and simple. All in all, however, it will make a difference!
First, draw some lines on the trunk to give it a better structure. Next, use a curved line for the elephant’s mouth.
Next, we’ll add a row of three rounded toenails to finish off each foot. So you’re done and ready for the next step!
We’d probably go for colored markers or some acrylic paint, but there are many great options!
However, you don’t have to stop there. You can also add some of your details or even create a fun background backdrop. You can then also color these additional elements in the next step!
Step 6
Elephants aren’t exactly known for being colorful animals, but there’s still plenty of fun if you run out of colors in this cartoon elephant drawing!
There are some final touches to make this drawing even better before adding some colors in the final step of this how-to-draw cartoon elephant guide!
We mainly chose shades of gray because of the elephant sin, but you’ll notice that we used different hues to create some shades.
For some bolder colors, we used lovely shades of pink for the inside of the ears and mouth.
You can use our color choices as inspiration for your image, but don’t be afraid to add your choices too!
